The Bahamas is home to many wonderful communities and gated subdivisions. The areas below represent some of the best Nassau has to offer.
Ocean Club Estates presents waterfront living at its best. This private community is located ‘over the bridge’ and next to Nassau, on Paradise Island. As a relatively new development it offers beachfront, golf-side and harbour-view properties. Ocean Club Estates’ residents enjoy amenities at the world-renowned Ocean Club Resort and Ocean Club Clubhouse with pool and tennis courts. The area has 24 hour security and complete privacy and luxury. Residency includes access to all of the waterpark, marine, fitness and spa facilities at Atlantis and membership can be purchased at the Ocean Club’s 18-hole par 72 championship golf course.
Lyford Cay is an established gated community—on the far northwestern tip of New Providence—where it is common to rub elbows with the rich and famous. This lavish development is home to over 300 properties which sits on 1,000 acres. Residents enjoy a half-mile beach and twenty-four hour security. The Lyford Cay Club boasts a championship golf course, twelve tennis courts, marina and world-class cuisine. The development also has its own international school. Just outside the gates is the Lyford Cay Shopping Centre—complete with food store, gas station and bank. Nearby is the Lyford Cay Hospital and a police station. Nassau’s international airport is also only minutes away by car.
Old Fort Bay is touted as a secluded hideaway where modern and classic luxury co-exists. This newer, elite, gated community is centered on a common area that was once the site of an ancient fort. Among natural, lush landscaping, villas and homes overlook the ocean, mangrove strewn canals or one of the island’s best beaches. Features include a beach club offering fresh meals, marina, parks and canal systems. Old Fort offers 24 hour security and is located 10 minutes away from the international airport. It is also in close proximity to Lyford Cay with its International School and hospital.
Albany sits quietly away from the city’s bustle and consists of 600 oceanfront acres on the southwestern coast of New Providence. Developed by Tavistock Group and golfers Tiger Woods and Ernie Els, it now features luxury three to five bedroom, furnished cottages. In time, Albany will offer 350 residences including beachfront, beachwalk, beach club and golf course custom homes, equestrian ranchettes and marina residences. Amenities include an 18-hole championship golf course, mega-yacht marina, spa and fitness center, restaurants, oceanside bars, water park, kids’ clubhouse and an adult pool and lounge. Albany is near to the international airport and in proximity to gated communities: Lyford Cay (with its International School and hospital) and Old Fort Bay.
Sandyport is a newer, gated community, one of the most convenient of its kind. Located on West Bay Street not far from downtown and just west of Cable Beach, the village is of Georgian/Colonial architecture in pastel colours with navigable canals and waterways to each house. All properties have boat docks and many have private beaches. Sandyport is near to all that Cable Beach has to offer along with having its own clinic with MRI, Skin Cancer and Allergy Medical Centre along with a church, bank, fine restaurants and gym. In the immediate area there is a post office, Tambearly School and gas station. Besides a public beach, the area boasts seven community swimming pools, six community tennis courts and three children’s playgrounds. Sandyport has 24 hour security.
Love Beach Walk consists of luxurious condominiums on Love Beach off West Bay Street. This gated community sits on one of Nassau’s most beautiful beaches (great for snorkeling) and has a large public swimming pool. The modern condos of Love Beach boast features such as high ceilings, spacious interiors, granite countertops, stainless steel appliances, walk-in closets and hurricane-rated doors and windows. Balconies offer gorgeous ocean views. There is 24 hour security. Ideally located just west of Compass Point Beach Resort— about 15 miles from downtown Nassau, the area is tranquil. It is not far from Lyford Cay, Old Fort Bay, Caves Village and the international airport.
Columbus Cove is located on beautiful Love Beach off West Bay Street. These gated, condos and villas sit on a lovely beachfront property —a hidden gem for snorkelers. Some of the property’s standout features include stainless steel appliances, granite countertops, 10' ft. high ceilings, spacious balconies with panoramic ocean views, storm-proof windows, 24 hour security and a uniquely shaped pool. Cable Beach begins a few minutes west of downtown Nassau on West Bay Street. Already the 2nd largest resort community in New Providence, it is set to undergo a $2.6 billion revamp under the Baha Mar redevelopment plan. Well known hotels such as Sandals, Sheraton and SuperClubs Breezes call this area home. There are many condos, townhomes and houses that line the oceanside and dot the interior, ranging from moderately priced to exclusive luxury. The area has beaches, shopping plazas, restaurants, a casino, golf course, post office and police/ fire station. Located in a dynamic environment, Cable Beach properties are in high demand.
‘Eastern Road’ is a lush area on the northeast coast of Nassau that is synonymous with old world charm and luxury. The many residential communities that stem from Eastern Road are sough-after because of the area’s proximity to most of the island’s private schools, along with shops, marinas and the downtown core. The estates that line the hilltops and ocean were founded by prosperous Bahamian families, dignitaries and wealthy foreigners. While newer homes have sprung up, the area still retains its colonial charm. Eastern Road is a sought after vicinity for vacation and retirement homes.
Port New Providence is a secure, gated community nestled in the southeast corner of New Providence. It is a quiet place with homes and condominiums lining beautifully landscaped lots, many on the canal and ocean. Residents enjoy a beach club situated directly on the beach, tennis court near the canal and a marina. The area is manned by 24 hour security. Port New Providence is very near to the elite private school, St Andrews and a large food store. Other stores, fast food eateries, gas stations and a gym are nearby. In addition, there is a police and fire station and a post office just a few minutes away by car.
